A molecular investigation of urea and creatinine removal in the wearable dialysis device using Two-Dimensional materials

Reza Maleki et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that novel two-dimensional materials have high attraction energy for urea and stable creatinine removal capacity. Twelve different types of 2D materials can adsorb urea with high adsorption energies, while COF, MXene, MoO3, and Bithmuthene monolayers show enhanced urea and creatinine adsorption compared to other materials.

New mixed matrix membrane for the removal of urea from dialysate solution

Ilaria Geremia et al.

Summary: A new Mixed Matrix Membrane (MMM) developed for urea removal in Wearable Artificial Kidney (WAK) devices showed efficient urea removal under static and dynamic conditions, thanks to the good dispersion of small size ninhydrin particles. The MMM removed a high amount of urea per grams of particles in both static and continuous recirculation experiments, making it suitable for WAK applications where miniaturization and lightweight are required.

Optimizing Hydrogen Storage in MOFs through Engineering of Crystal Morphology and Control of Crystal Size

Kuthuru Suresh et al.

Summary: By improving packing efficiency and crystal size distributions, the hydrogen storage density of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can be significantly enhanced, maximizing storage capacity. System model projections show that engineering crystal morphology/size or using bimodal distributions of cubic crystal sizes can surpass the current volumetric capacity of compressed storage systems.

Nano architectured cues as sustainable membranes for ultrafiltration in blood hemodialysis

Muhammad Ali et al.

Summary: The research aimed to reduce the adsorption of protein-bound and uremic toxins using mordenite zeolite as an adsorbent and different pore generating agents. The experiments showed that the concentration of mordenite zeolite affects membrane performance, with larger pore size leading to decreased solute rejection but increased creatinine uptake level.

Cellulose acetate-polyvinyl alcohol blend hemodialysis membranes integrated with dialysis performance and high biocompatibility

Ofaira Azhar et al.

Summary: In this study, Cellulose Acetate (CA) hemodialysis membrane was modified using Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) and Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) additives to enhance filtration capability and biocompatibility. The synthesized membranes showed improved water flux, solute permeation, and protein retention, as well as reduced platelet adherence and hemolysis ratio compared to conventional CA membranes. Overall, the fabricated CA-PVA hemodialysis membranes displayed higher efficiency and biocompatibility, making them a promising option for clinical use.
