Peroxymonosulfate activation by graphitic carbon nitride co-doped with manganese, cobalt, and oxygen for degradation of trichloroethylene: Effect of oxygen precursors, kinetics, and mechanism

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: Graphitic carbon nitride doped with metals and nonmetals has been widely used for activating peroxymonosulfate to remove organic pollutants. In this study, MCOCN was prepared via a sol-gel calcination method and showed superior performance in removing TCE when citric acid was used as the oxygen precursor. The kinetics of TCE degradation were influenced by parameters such as the concentration of PMS, initial pH, and dose of the catalyst, with the sulfate radicals playing a key role in the degradation process.

Iron-nitrogen co-doped carbon nanotubes decorated with Cu2O possess enhanced electronic properties for effective peroxymonosulfate activation

Nuanqin Zhang et al.

Summary: By modifying Cu2O with iron-nitrogen co-doped carbon nanotubes, the study demonstrates ultrahigh catalytic performance in the activation of peroxymonopersulfate to degrade fluconazole, as well as reducing the acute biotoxicity of various recalcitrant pollutants. This research not only enhances the reactivity and applicability of PMS activators, but also proposes a new reaction mechanism for the fluconazole degradation pathway.

A novel peroxymonosulfate activation process by periclase for efficient singlet oxygen-mediated degradation of organic pollutants

Lingshuai Kong et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the excellent catalytic performance of MgO as a PMS activator for degrading organic contaminants, with a focus on the degradation of BPA. Singlet oxygen was identified as the main reactive species in the PMS/MgO system. Additionally, MgO showed minimal impact on anions and humic acid commonly found in environmental matrices.

Fabrication of binary metal doped CuO nanocatalyst and their application for the industrial effluents treatment

Atta ur Rehman et al.

Summary: In this study, binary transition metal (Ce and Zn) doped CuO nanocatalyst was successfully fabricated through a facile co-precipitation technique. The doped sample exhibited significantly higher removal efficiency for MB dye compared to the pristine CuO sample, attributed to its higher surface area and tuned band-gap. The superior adsorption and degradation aptitude of the doped sample were also supported by a higher rate constant in the degradation process.

Iron molydate catalyzed activation of peroxymonosulfate for bisphenol AF degradation via synergetic non-radical and radical pathways

Ningruo Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, FeMoO4 was synthesized and demonstrated to have excellent catalytic activity for the activation of PMS to degrade BPAF. The oxidation mechanism was proposed to involve free radical (SO4· and ·OH) and non-radical (O-1(2)) species. XPS analysis confirmed that the radicals were mainly generated through Fe3+/Fe2+ and Mo6+/Mo4+ redox cycles, enhancing PMS activation.

Role of curvature in a carbon electronic structure under spatial confinement: Conversion of nonradicals to radicals

Hui Song et al.

Summary: The N-doped carbon material SiM with a hollow structure can activate PMS to oxidize BPA, controlling the hybridization proportion and transition of PFR by the curvature of the hollow structure. Varying the N species content allowed for the establishment of a mathematical relationship with the nonradical reaction rate. This study provides new insights into controlled pathways and reaction types in carbon-catalyzed PMS activation.
