Coordination-driven interfacial cross-linked graphene oxide-alginate nacre mesh with underwater superoleophobicity for oil-water separation

Lulu Wang et al.

Summary: Inspired by seashell nacre and seaweed, a novel GO-Ca2+-SA nacre-inspired hybrid mesh was prepared through interfacial layer-by-layer self-assembly and cross-linking, showing superhydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic properties. The hybrid mesh exhibited high separation efficiencies for various oil-water mixtures and a high flux rate.

Low-pressure loose GO composite membrane intercalated by CNT for effective dye/salt separation

Lili Huang et al.

Summary: Low-pressure loose nanofiltration membranes were fabricated by intercalating CNTs into GO laminates supported by CA ultrafiltration substrates, which loosened the GO film and enlarged interlayer spacing. The membranes exhibited optimal separation performance in textile wastewater treatment, with high water permeability and almost complete rejection of dyes, while also showing low rejections to salts under low transmembrane pressure. This work presents a feasible approach for designing GO-based membranes with improved dye/salt separation performance.

Competition of co-existing cations to eliminate negative effect of Na+ on graphene oxide membrane structure and stabilize the separation performance

Han Li et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of co-existing cations on the structural stability of graphene oxide (GO) membrane, finding that the presence of NaCl alone increased membrane flux and decreased rejection, while solutions containing co-existing K+ or Ca2+ resulted in more stable membrane performance. The ability of co-existing K+ or Ca2+ to stabilize the GO membrane structure was attributed to their priority to enter nano-capillary channels and enhance interlayer interactions with GO nanosheets.

Summary: This study introduces a novel GO hybrid lamellar membrane for high-performance nanofiltration with enhanced membrane stability. By regulating the interlayer spacing with TiO2 intercalants and enhancing stability with PEI encapsulation, the composite membrane achieves high water flux and a high rejection rate of dyes.
