Turn-on fluorescence measurement of acid phosphatase activity through an aggregation-induced emission of thiolate-protected gold nanoclusters

Tingting Pan et al.

Summary: A fluorescence method for measuring acid phosphatase (ACP) activity was developed in this study. It was found that in a weakly acidic environment, the generation of ascorbic acid enhanced gold nanocluster fluorescence through the reduction of Ce4+ to Ce3+, allowing for linear measurement of ACP activity. The whole analysis process was completed in 1.5 hours with results in good agreement with a reference method, demonstrating the effectiveness of the method.

A highly selective ratiometric fluorescent probe for doxycycline based on the sensitization effect of bovine serum albumin

Lu Ding et al.

Summary: Fluorescent probes with in-situ visual feature have gained attention for detecting doxycycline (DC), a widely used tetracycline antibiotic in animal husbandry. Bovine serum albumin-capped gold nanoclusters (BSA-AuNCs) were used as a ratiometric fluorescent probe to selectively detect DC among tetracycline antibiotics. BSA-AuNCs showed the highest response toward DC, with simple synthesis, short response time (1 min), and low detection limit. This work proposes an efficient strategy for designing fluorescent probes to selectively detect DC among tetracycline antibiotics.

Tb3+ tuning AIE self-assembly of copper nanoclusters for sensitively sensing trace fluoride ions

Xue Li et al.

Summary: Tb3+ ions were used to transform weakly luminescent GSH-CuNCs into highly red emissive Tb3+-CuNCs through restricting intramolecular rotation-vibrational motion, resulting in over 260-fold increase in emission. These Tb3+-CuNCs showed improved long-term storage stability and a 14-fold increase in quantum yield compared to GSH-CuNCs. A fluorescence assay based on Tb(III)-CuNCs was developed for the selective and sensitive detection of F- ions, with a detection limit lower than that set by the World Health Organization for drinking water.
