The study demonstrated that continuous intraocular pressure profiles from chipless contact lens sensor can reduce noise, but may still be affected by noise from tears and eyelids in in vivo experiments. The newly designed dual-compliance, dual-element CLS effectively reduces the sensing noise of intraocular pressure.
Continuous intraocular pressure profiles from chipless contact lens sensor (CLS) reduces misdiagnosis and improves treatment monitoring. Tests showed IOP profiles from ex vivo porcine eye trials have low noise. The in vivo profiles are confounded by noise from tears and eyelids. The addition of reference elements successfully reduced a part of the noise, but mechanical noise is still ignored. Hybrid mechanical design strategy to reduce noise is examined in this study. The dual-compliance, dual-element CLS is designed, prototyped, and tested. Results showed that the noise is reduced to less than +/- 3 mmHg in different en-vironments. Analysis showed the design reduced deformation signal overlap, increased the signal separa-tion, and boosted the sensitivity. The dual-compliance, high-sensitivity CLS design reduces CLS IOP sensing noise effectively. (c) 2021 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
