Design and fabrication of an online inductive sensor for identification of ferrous wear particles in engine oil

Abolfazl Talebi et al.

Summary: An online sensor was designed and fabricated to identify ferrous wear particles in engine oil based on the induction method. Offline tests showed that the sensor had highest sensitivity at a frequency and voltage of 2.5 kHz and 120 V respectively, while online tests demonstrated that larger particle size led to higher peaks at the sensor output. The sensor was able to identify ferrous wear particles larger than 125 micrometers, which is critical for internal combustion engines.
