Dim Light at Night Impairs Daily Variation of Circulating Immune Cells and Renal Immune Homeostasis

Monika Okuliarova et al.

Summary: Research on the effects of exposure to dim light at night on immune cells and renal immune-related markers in rats reveals that dLAN disrupts the daily variations of circulating immune cells and disturbs renal immune and redox balance. These findings suggest a weakened circadian control and highlight the need for further studies on the impact of dLAN-disturbed immune balance on the immune system's response to other challenges.

Light at Night and Disrupted Circadian Rhythms Alter Physiology and Behavior

Jacob R. Bumgarner et al.

Summary: Life on earth has evolved with the influence of light-dark cycles, but the widespread use of electric lights in the past century has exposed organisms to significant light at night (LAN), potentially affecting adaptive physiology and behavior. LAN exposure can have serious implications for various aspects of physiology and behavior, including immune, endocrine, and metabolic function, as well as reproductive, foraging, and migratory behavior. Strategies to mitigate the consequences of LAN on behavior and physiology will be considered.
