Seasonal and daytime variation in multiple immune parameters in humans: Evidence from 329,261 participants of the UK Biobank cohort

Cathy Wyse et al.

Summary: Seasonal and daytime variability in immune parameters were observed in a large population, independent of lifestyle and environmental factors. These findings suggest that season and time of day should be considered in studies of immunoprophylaxis and disease transmission.

Optogenetic activation of local colonic sympathetic innervations attenuates colitis by limiting immune cell extravasation

Maya Schiller et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of the local arm of the sympathetic nervous system on colonic inflammation. It was found that local activation of sympathetic fibers can attenuate colitis and reduce immune cell abundance. Gene expression profiling showed that optogenetic stimulation leads to decreased endothelial expression of the adhesion molecule MAdCAM-1, which can be blocked by adrenergic blockers and 6-hydroxydopamine. Antibody blockade of MAdCAM-1 eliminated the effect of optogenetic stimulation on immune cell extravasation and pathology in the colon.

Glucocorticoid resistance and β2-adrenergic receptor signaling pathways promote peripheral pro-inflammatory conditions associated with chronic psychological stress: A systematic review across species

Catherine P. Walsh et al.

Summary: Chronic stress is associated with decreased cellular GR sensitivity, alterations in intracellular beta-AR signaling, and upregulation of pro-inflammatory biomarkers in peripheral blood. These findings suggest that chronic stress may affect cellular sensitivity to glucocorticoids and catecholamines.

Summary: Bone marrow plays a crucial role in protective immunological memory, housing a significant portion of plasma cells and memory T-cells; Understanding the relationship between bone marrow survival niches and long-lasting humoral immunity is vital; Insights into bone marrow's impact on immunological memory can contribute to the development of effective vaccines against diseases like SARS-CoV-2.
