Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) with Colonoscopy Is Superior to Enema and Nasogastric Tube While Comparable to Capsule for the Treatment of RecurrentClostridioides difficileInfection: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Daryl Ramai et al.

Summary: The study compared the efficacy of colonoscopy, capsule, enema, and nasogastric tube FMT for the treatment of recurrent CDI, with colonoscopy FMT showing superior cure rates compared to enema and NGT FMT, while colonoscopy and capsule FMT had comparable cure rates.

Short-Term Western Diet Intake Promotes IL-23-Mediated Skin and Joint Inflammation Accompanied by Changes to the Gut Microbiota in Mice

Zhenrui Shi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that short-term intake of a high-sugar and high-fat diet can lead to dysbiosis in the gut microbiota, exacerbating psoriasis-like skin and joint inflammation. Switching to a healthier dietary pattern may help alleviate skin and/or joint disease in patients with psoriasis.

Multi 'Omics Analysis of Intestinal Tissue in Ankylosing Spondylitis Identifies Alterations in the Tryptophan Metabolism Pathway

Adam J. Berlinberg et al.

Summary: The study identified significant alterations in tryptophan pathway metabolites, including an expansion of indole-3-acetate (IAA) and indole-3-acetaldehyde (I3Ald), in patients with axial spondyloarthritis (SpA) compared to other disease groups and healthy controls, suggesting a possible specificity in the development of axSpA. This indicates that tryptophan metabolism into I3Ald and then IAA may be a mechanism through which the gut microbiome potentially influences the pathophysiology of axSpA.

Safety and efficacy of faecal microbiota transplantation for active peripheral psoriatic arthritis: an exploratory randomised placebo-controlled trial

Maja Skov Kragsnaes et al.

Summary: Although no serious adverse events were observed, the preliminary results of the study indicate that fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) may be inferior to sham treatment in treating psoriatic arthritis, with a higher treatment failure rate and less improvement in joint function observed in the FMT group.

Fecal microbiota transplantation for Crohn's disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis

F. Cheng et al.

Summary: Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is shown to be an effective and safe therapy for Crohn's disease (CD), possibly due to its ability to increase the overall diversity of enteric microbiome. Studies indicate that fresh stool FMT may have a higher rate of clinical remission compared to frozen stool FMT. Further randomized controlled studies are necessary for more conclusive evidence.

Characteristics of the intestinal microbiome in ankylosing spondylitis

Anca Cardoneanu et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the gut microbiome in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is associated with an inflammatory state and dysbiosis. The results show a decrease in gut bacterial diversity in the AS group, with significantly lower levels of Clostridium leptum and higher levels of Escherichia coli.
