The reduction of nitrobenzene by extracellular electron transfer facilitated by Fe-bearing biochar derived from sewage sludge

Yue Lu et al.

Summary: In this study, the addition of Fe-bearing sludge-derived biochar combined with Geobacter sulfurreducens accelerated the reduction of NB, forming biochar with redox-active centers. Through the microbial dissimilatory iron reduction mechanism, the biotic and abiotic reduction rates of NB were effectively improved.

Novel Pathway for Vanadium(V) Bio-Detoxification by Gram-Positive Lactococcus raffinolactis

Baogang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates for the first time the potential of a Gram-positive bacterium, Lactococcus raffinolactis, in effectively reducing V(V) contamination. The reduction process involves both intracellular and extracellular mechanisms, with nitrite reductase playing a key role. The study also highlights the importance of oxidative stress tolerance and extracellular polymeric substances in V(V) bio-reduction.

Effect of C/N substrates for enhanced extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) production and Poly Cyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) degradation

N. Premnath et al.

Summary: This study isolated Klebsiella pneumoniae from the marine environment, which is influenced by Extracellular Polymeric Substances (EPS) and capable of degrading Poly Cyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs). By optimizing conditions such as specific carbon and nitrogen sources, the study achieved maximum EPS growth and biodegradation of PAHs.

Potential effects of Rhodococcus qingshengii strain djl-6 on the bioremediation of carbendazim-contaminated soil and the assembly of its microbiome

Shaochuang Chuang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that carbendazim had a negative impact on soil bacterial communities and reduced the proportion of dominant fungal phylum Ascomycota. However, the effects on fungal communities were weakened with low-dose carbendazim. The degrading strain Rhodococcus qingshengii strain djl-6 showed potential for bioremediation of carbendazim-contaminated soils and drove the assembly of potential carbendazim-degrading consortia.
