Spatial biases of information influence global estimates of soil respiration: How can we improve global predictions?

Summary: The global soil respiration database (SRDB) compiles in situ Rs observations globally, and comparison between two versions showed that additional data improved global Rs estimates but also increased model uncertainty, especially in underrepresented regions. The inclusion of new data in SRDBv5 resulted in overall higher model uncertainty, with the largest differences in arid/semi-arid regions. Testing an optimized global distribution of Rs measurements led to a more accurate global sum with lower model uncertainty.
