Predicting the risk of GenX contamination in private well water using a machine-learned Bayesian network model

Javad Roostaei et al.

Summary: Machine learning was used to predict the spatial distribution of PFAS in the environment, with the model showing high accuracy in predicting GenX risk in private wells. The historic rate of atmospheric deposition of GenX from fluorochemical manufacturing facility was found to be the most important factor associated with GenX risk in private wells.

Are carbon water filters safe for private wells? Evaluating the occurrence of microbial indicator organisms in private well water treated by point-of-use activated carbon block filters

Riley Mulhern et al.

Summary: The study evaluated under-sink activated carbon block water filters in 17 homes over five months, showing a protective effect against total coliforms in the influent but not against coliphages. The filters may increase specific bacteria in the effluent and potential opportunistic pathogens were detected. Overall, the filters did not pose a significant additional risk for well users beyond existing exposures from undisinfected well water.

Intercultural competence in tourism and hospitality: Self-efficacy beliefs and the Dunning Kruger effect

Erdogan Koc

Summary: The study reveals that employees in the tourism and hospitality industry have low intercultural competence and often exaggerate their intercultural awareness. This has implications for both the employees themselves and the businesses they work for, as well as raises concerns about the accuracy of self-report scales/tests in measuring intercultural competence.
