Effects of biochar, ochre and manure amendments associated with a metallicolous ecotype of Agrostis capillaris on As and Pb stabilization of a former mine technosol

Manhattan Lebrun et al.

Summary: Metal(loid) soil pollution is a significant environmental and health issue, requiring remediation through methods like phytoremediation. The use of amendments such as biochar and manure on contaminated soils can improve physicochemical properties and plant growth. A combination of biochar and manure appears to be the most effective treatment for enhancing soil fertility and promoting plant growth.

Effect of fertilization, carbon-based material, and redmud amendments on the bacterial activity and diversity of a metal(loid) contaminated mining soil

Manhattan Lebrun et al.

Summary: This study examined the effects of carbon-based amendments and redmuds on the bacterial community in a lead and arsenic contaminated mine spoil Technosol. The combination of biochar and redmud increased both the diversity and activity of the bacterial community, while fertilization had a negative impact on bacterial community diversity and activity. The treatments induced a shift in bacterial community structure, with biochar and/or neutralized redmud resulting in similar community compositions.
