Spatiotemporal assessment of PM2.5 concentrations and exposure in China from 2013 to 2017 using satellite-derived data

Qingqing He et al.

Summary: A satellite-based spatiotemporal model was developed to predict high-resolution PM2.5 concentrations in China from 2013 to 2017, showing substantial decreases in eastern China and minimal decreases in western China. Most cities in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Pearl River Delta regions have met the goals set by clean air policies, but the majority of the Chinese population still lived in areas with sustained high-risk levels of fine particle pollution by 2017. The findings have important implications for environmental policies and public health studies related to PM2.5 pollution in China.

Characteristics of PM2.5 pollution in Beijing after the improvement of air quality

Xiaojuan Huang et al.

Summary: Following the implementation of strict clean air policies in Beijing, the study found a decrease in PM2.5 concentration, with spring having the highest levels. Secondary nitrate and vehicular emissions were identified as the main sources of PM2.5. Contributions from coal combustion decreased significantly, while contributions from EC and NO3- increased during weekends.

Overviewing the air quality models on air pollution in Sichuan Basin, China

Xiaoju Li et al.

Summary: Research shows that air quality models are crucial in analyzing air pollution issues in regions like the Sichuan Basin in China, but there is still a lack of research on heavily polluted areas. This study provides a theoretical reference for air pollution prevention and control in the Sichuan Basin through research.

Summary: The study shows that PM2.5 concentrations in the Central North China Plain have decreased in recent years, mainly due to emission control measures. In particular, PM2.5 in autumn and winter is mainly composed of sulfate, nitrate, and ammonium, with secondary aerosols being a significant component of PM2.5.
