Effect of solid-liquid separation on food waste fermentation products as external carbon source for denitrification

Shasha Qi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of gauze separation on the production of food waste fermentation products, denitrification performance, effluent characteristics, and activated sludge characteristics. The results showed that separated fermentation liquid had better denitrification performance with increased Proteobacteria abundance in the denitrification reactor. Gauze separation can provide a reliable alternative carbon source for denitrification.

Hydrothermal carbonization of food waste after oil extraction pre-treatment: Study on hydrochar fuel characteristics, combustion behavior, and removal behavior of sodium and potassium

Hongcai Su et al.

Summary: This study aims to convert oil extracted food waste into hydrochar as potential solid fuel via hydrothermal carbonization process. The hydrochar produced has higher high heating value and fuel ratio, increased carbon content, stable combustion process, and high removal rates of sodium and potassium. Hydrothermal carbonization is considered a promising alternative for treatment and energy conversion of OEFW.

Fermentation liquid production of food wastes as carbon source for denitrification: Laboratory and full-scale investigation

Shasha Qi et al.

Summary: Food wastes fermentation liquid was investigated as an external carbon source in municipal wastewater treatment for nitrogen removal, showing potential to replace commercial carbon sources with improved nitrogen removal efficiency and reduced operating costs. The laboratory and full-scale experiments demonstrated the effectiveness of using fermentation liquid to enhance denitrification in wastewater treatment plants.
