Impact of different exposure models and spatial resolution on the long-term effects of air pollution

Claudio Gariazzo et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the effect estimates of the long-term effects of air pollutants (PM10 and NO2) on cause-specific mortality in Rome using exposure estimates obtained with different models and spatial resolutions. The study found different distributions of NO2 and PM10 concentrations across models and spatial resolutions, but consistent associations between the pollutants and mortality outcomes on a relative scale of exposure.

Benefit Analysis of the 1st Spaish Air Pollution Control Programme on Health Impacts and Associated Externalities

Summary: This paper provides scientific support for decision-making in improving air quality by evaluating pollution reduction measures included in the current Spanish policy framework. The study found that the adoption of measures improved the health effects of NO2, PM10, and PM2.5, but resulted in a slight worsening due to the increase in the O-3 metric.

Estimates of pedestrian exposure to atmospheric pollution using high-resolution modelling in a real traffic hot-spot

J. L. Santiago et al.

Summary: The study aims to estimate pedestrians' exposure to ambient nitrogen oxides (NOx) concentrations in a real urban traffic hot-spot using different methodologies. High-resolution maps reveal exposure peaks for pedestrians at bus stops and crosswalks, not captured by simpler methods based on spatial average concentration or measurements from air quality monitoring stations.
