Copula-based non-stationarity detection of the precipitation-temperature dependency structure dynamics and possible driving mechanism

Haixia Dong et al.

Summary: This study examines the non-stationarity of the precipitation-temperature dependency structure using various methods and factors in the Datong River Basin. Results show that local meteorological factors and teleconnection factors play significant roles in driving the dynamics of the precipitation-temperature dependency structure in the region.

An approach for decomposing river water-quality trends into different flow classes

Qian Zhang et al.

Summary: The FN2Q approach is an extension of the flow-normalization procedure of the well-established WRTDS method, providing daily estimates of low-flow and high-flow FN flux for summarizing trends in river water quality. Application of the method to the South Fork Shenandoah River shows a decline in total nitrogen flux, primarily driven by a decrease in low-flow class, which is correlated with wastewater effluent loads. The high-flow flux exhibited a spike around 2007, likely due to increased delivery of particulate nitrogen associated with sediment transport.

Does the Hook Structure Constrain Future Flood Intensification Under Anthropogenic Climate Warming?

Jiabo Yin et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of rising temperatures on precipitation and storm runoff extremes in mainland China, revealing a complex relationship between temperature and extreme precipitation and runoff events. While climate warming is projected to increase storm runoff extremes, the presence of hook structures in some regions indicates that extreme events may not continually intensify with rising temperatures.

Accounting of Transboundary Ecocompensation Standards Based on Water Quantity Allocation and Water Quality Control Targets

Cailian Hao et al.

Summary: This study proposes a transboundary compensation standard accounting method based on water quantity allocation and water quality control targets, and established 27 ecocompensation standard formulas for the Shaying River watershed. The results not only provide a compensation standard for the Shaying River but also provide a reference for the calculation of ecocompensation standards for other transboundary rivers in China with definite water quantity and water quality management objectives.

Early warning of water quality degradation: A copula-based Bayesian network model for highly efficient water quality risk assessment

Ruolan Yu et al.

Summary: In the study, a Copula-based Bayesian network (CBN) method was proposed to evaluate water quality risk with multiple environmental indicators in a large drinking water reservoir in Tianjin, China. TN and NH3-N were identified as key risk indicators, and different seasons and locations were found to affect water quality risk. The CBN method was suggested as a valuable decision-support tool for reservoir managers and scientists.
