Properties and dynamics of meron topological spin textures in the two-dimensional magnet CrCl3

Mathias Augustin et al.

Summary: Merons are nontrivial topological spin textures relevant for various phenomena in solid state physics. In the recently discovered 2D material CrCl3, merons and antimerons are shown to emerge and their dynamics are explored. This work expands the current understanding of non-trivial spin structures in 2D magnets and opens up possibilities for controlling magnetic domains through topological quasiparticles.

Transport signature of the magnetic Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition

Se Kwon Kim et al.

Summary: Based on recent experimental progress in 2D magnetism, this theoretical study investigates spin transport in 2D easy-plane magnets at finite temperatures across the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) phase transition, with a duality mapping to 2+1D electromagnetism taking into account spin's finite lifetime. The non-conservation of spin is found to result in a distinct signature across the BKT transition, detectable in proposed experiments with NiPS3 and CrCl3.
