Immediate brain plasticity after one hour of brain-computer interface (BCI)

Till Nierhaus et al.

Summary: Two groups of inexperienced brain-computer interface users underwent purely mental EEG-BCI training and showed rapid and spatially specific signs of brain plasticity measured with functional and structural MRI. The study demonstrated that different types of BCI induce spatially specific brain plastic changes, offering promise for tailored therapeutic interventions.

What Do Meta-Analyses Have to Say About the Efficacy of Neurofeedback Applied to Children With ADHD? Review of Previous Meta-Analyses and a New Meta-Analysis

Pablo Riesco-Matias et al.

Summary: This study reviewed previous meta-analyses and conducted a new one on neurofeedback for children with ADHD, finding significant improvement in inattention symptoms. However, preliminary results suggest that stimulant medication may be more effective than neurofeedback. New RCTs establishing the connections between ADHD symptom measurements, learning after neurofeedback, and neurophysiological measures could enhance the quality of conclusions.

Putamen volume predicts real-time fMRI neurofeedback learning success across paradigms and neurofeedback target regions

Zhiying Zhao et al.

Summary: Real-time fMRI guided neurofeedback training is a noninvasive brain regulation technique with potential therapeutic applications, which can modulate functional brain alterations. By pooling data from three datasets, it was found that gray matter volume of the right putamen could predict learning success in neurofeedback training.

Balancing the brain of offenders with psychopathy? Resting state EEG and electrodermal activity after a pilot study of brain self-regulation training

Lilian Konicar et al.

Summary: The study showed that central nervous system of offenders with psychopathy was regulated through slow cortical potential (SCP) neurofeedback by suppressing overrepresentation of slow frequency bands and increasing alpha band activity. Electrodermal activity adaptively changed according to regulation task, and this flexibility improved over training time, indicating constructive learning process and plasticity in neural and peripheral measures of offenders with psychopathy.

Behavioral validation of novel high resolution attention decoding method from multi-units & local field potentials

Carine De Sousa et al.

Summary: Real-time access to brain information is crucial for understanding cognitive functions and developing therapeutic applications. Recent research shows that the location of the attentional spotlight can be tracked using prefrontal LFP signals, which are predictive of behavior. The study also finds that LFP content in the gamma band is most informative for attention-related information.

Dynamic Functional Network Connectivity Changes Associated with fMRI Neurofeedback of Right Premotor Cortex

Zhiying Long et al.

Summary: Neurofeedback training of the motor-related region can impact the dynamic characteristics of functional network connectivity (DFNC) underlying motor execution tasks, with stronger positive connections and less weak connections after training. The temporal properties of DFNC were found to be associated with training effect and improvement in motor performance.

Electrophysiological correlates of improved executive function following EEG neurofeedback in adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

Marie-Pierre Deiber et al.

Summary: This study utilized neurofeedback as a neuromodulatory tool to examine the ERP correlates of attentional and inhibitory processes in adult ADHD. The results showed that a single-session of alpha down-regulation NFB was able to improve task performance and enhance ERP component amplitudes, specifically correlating with measures of improved executive function in ADHD patients.
