Bennettitalean Leaves From the Permian of Equatorial Pangea-The Early Radiation of an Iconic Mesozoic Gymnosperm Group

Patrick Blomenkemper et al.

Summary: The Bennettitaleans, extinct gymnosperms, were a prominent group of plants during the Mesozoic Era. Their sudden rise during the Triassic remains a mystery, with only well-preserved fossils allowing for certain identification of their foliage. Recent discoveries of well-preserved Bennettitalean leaves in Permian deposits suggest that the group's origin may predate the known fossil record.
