Extensive evaluation on the effect of glass powder on the rheology, strength, and microstructure of metakaolin-based geopolymer binders

Sina Dadsetan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the characteristics of geopolymer pastes derived from metakaolin and glass powder, with focus on rheological, mechanical and microstructural properties. Results showed that addition of glass powder did not affect the rheological behavior of metakaolin-based geopolymers, and up to 25% replacement of glass powder by metakaolin showed similar compressive strengths.

Effect of partial replacement of the cement by glass waste on cementitious pastes

Lidiane Fernanda Jochem et al.

Summary: The utilization of ground glass waste as supplementary cementitious material is beneficial for the environment and sometimes economically advantageous as it converts waste into value-added products and reduces the need for transportation. The research found that incorporating ground glass waste can enhance air entrapped, reduce cement consumption, improve cement efficiency in hydration kinetics, and induce a pozzolanic reaction. However, it did not improve mechanical strength in a hardened state but showed higher efficiency in cement replacement.

Insights to the sulfate resistance and microstructures of alkali-activated metakaolin/slag pastes

Huajun Zhu et al.

Summary: Substitution of metakaolin with slag increased precursor reactivity, leading to higher reaction rates and improved mechanical properties and sulfate resistance in alkaliactivated cement. The development of gel phases and pore structures, as well as the generation of C-A-S-H, contribute to the better sulfate resistance and more compact microstructure observed with higher slag content. An optimal replacement level of 30 wt% metakaolin was identified for improved sulfate resistance and prevention of potential ettringite damage in practical applications.

Effect of Al on the formation and structure of alkali-silica reaction products

Zhenguo Shi et al.

Summary: Aluminum plays a role in the formation and structure of ASR products, with concentrations lower than 0.1 mM not preventing or altering the structure of ASR products formed at 40 degrees C. However, the formation of crystalline ASR products at 80 degrees C is reduced at higher aluminum content due to the formation of a zeolitic precursor.

Summary: Geopolymer binders have attracted attention for their formation mechanism, molecular structure types, and evolution of amorphous products, but face challenges in numerical modeling. Recent MD simulation studies focus on N-A-S-H type gels, collecting and evaluating data related to modeling methods, thermodynamics, structural properties, and dynamic behavior. MD simulation enables exploration of microscale properties and structural evolution of geopolymer materials.
