Silicate-Enhanced Heterogeneous Flow-Through Electro-Fenton System Using Iron Oxides under Nanoconfinement

Dongli Guo et al.

Summary: A silicate-enhanced flow-through electro-Fenton system with a nanoconfined catalyst was designed and demonstrated for efficient, rapid, and selective degradation of antibiotic tetracycline. The system utilized Fe2O3 nanoparticle filled carbon nanotube filter to generate in situ H2O2 and convert it to reactive oxygen species for degradation. The presence of silicate electrolyte significantly boosted H2O2 yield and the flow-through configuration offered improved degradation kinetics compared to conventional batch reactors.

Preparation of biochar and biochar composites and their application in a Fenton-like process for wastewater decontamination: A review

Xuqin Pan et al.

Summary: Biochar is a carbon-rich material obtained from solid waste pyrolysis, featuring low cost, large specific surface area, and strong adsorption capacity. Biochar composites, produced by loading nano particles onto biochar, have been widely applied in wastewater treatment to enhance the performance of advanced oxidation processes. However, due to the variety of biochar feedstocks and preparation methods, comparing the properties of different biochars can be challenging.

Oily sludge derived carbons as peroxymonosulfate activators for removing aqueous organic pollutants: Performances and the key role of carbonyl groups in electron-transfer mechanism

Wenjie Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, low-cost carbon-based materials were developed from oily sludge via pyrolysis for activation of peroxymonosulfate to remove aqueous organic pollutants efficiently. The research found that the proportion of carbonyl groups in the carbocatalyst was linearly correlated with catalytic activity, with electron-transfer mechanism identified as the primary pathway for organic pollutant oxidation.
