The lanthipeptide biosynthetic clusters of the domain Archaea

Summary: Research on Archaea's secondary metabolites is still behind that of Bacteria and Eukarya. This study focused on analyzing lanthipeptide clusters in Archaea, particularly in the class Halobacteria. The analysis revealed a diverse group of lanthipeptides with novel structures and potential biological and ecological roles, despite the fact that antimicrobial activity in one specific case was not directly related to lanthipeptide production.

New developments in RiPP discovery, enzymology and engineering

Summary: This article reviews the research progress of ribosomally-synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs) as of June 2020, including the discovery of new RiPP classes, deeper understanding of the mechanisms for the installation of post-translational modifications, and the mechanisms by which enzymes recognize leader peptides. Additionally, genome mining tools and strategies for RiPP engineering are also discussed in the review.
