Reliability assessment and lifetime prediction of degradation processes considering recoverable shock damages

Tingting Huang et al.

Summary: This article proposes a degradation model for soft failure considering recoverable shock damages, aiming at reliability assessment and lifetime prediction of products. Instantaneous shocks can lead to incremental increases in degradation signals and degradation rates, however some products can partially or fully recover from shock damages. The impact of shocks on degradation rates is proportional to the shock size.

Scheduling optimal replacement policies for a stochastically deteriorating system subject to two types of shocks

Wenjie Dong et al.

Summary: This paper investigates optimal preventive replacement policies for a single unit system subject to stochastic deterioration and external shocks. Two types of shocks are considered, leading to different system outcomes, and two categories of maintenance policies are scheduled based on analytical solutions. The relative gain on the optimal average maintenance cost rate is used to determine the more profitable policy, with theoretical results validated through an illustrative example.

A performance-based warranty for products subject to competing hard and soft failures

Xiaolin Wang et al.

Summary: This article examines a performance-based warranty for products with competing hard and soft failures, proposing three compensation policies: free replacement, penalty, and full refund. Numerical studies show that the full refund policy consistently results in the lowest total profit, while the free replacement policy can lead to higher total profit under certain conditions.

Reliability analysis for a system experiencing dependent degradation processes and random shocks based on a nonlinear Wiener process model

Fuqiang Sun et al.

Summary: This paper presents a more general reliability model that considers competing failure modes in complex systems caused by degradation processes and random shocks. A nonlinear Wiener process model is used to characterize degradation behavior, and the impact of random shocks on degradation processes, as well as the impact of degradation processes on random shocks, is investigated. The time-varying copula method is utilized to characterize dependence among multiple failure processes.

Reliability modeling and a statistical inference method of accelerated degradation testing with multiple stresses and dependent competing failure processes

Yao Liu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a multiple stresses reliability model with dependent competing failure processes (DCFPs) by constructing multiple stresses acceleration model and deriving degradation-shock dependence competing model. A statistical inference method for accelerated degradation testing with multiple stresses and dependent competing failure processes is introduced. The practical example demonstrates the accuracy of the proposed model and method, and it is shown that reliability is lower with larger temperature, humidity, and more random shock due to larger mean of wear rate.

Degradation modeling and remaining useful life prediction for dependent competing failure processes

Tao Yan et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the degradation modeling and remaining useful life (RUL) prediction for dependent competing failure processes (DCFPs). By formulating models for both soft and hard failure processes and addressing the offline estimation and online update of parameters, a new approach is proposed to tackle the challenges in RUL prediction.

Reliability Evaluation by a Dependent Competing Failure Model Including a Time-Varying Rate for Sudden Degradation Increments

Shuyuan Gan et al.

Summary: In this study, an effective dependent competing failure model is proposed for systems suffering from shocks, considering time-dependent rate for sudden degradation increments caused by shocks. Two dependent competing failure processes, soft failure and hard failure, are involved in the model, and the distribution of total sudden degradation increments is deduced and verified by Monte Carlo simulation. The proposed time-varying model effectively considers the impact of system degradation on sudden degradation increments and helps achieve more effective maintenance policies.
