Pressure-induced structure, electronic, thermodynamic and mechanical properties of Ti2AlNb orthorhombic phase by first-principles calculations

Zhen-Yi Wei et al.

Summary: The effects of pressure on the properties of fully ordered Ti2AlNb orthorhombic phase were studied using first-principles calculations. The alloy showed limited changes in elastic anisotropy under pressure, while the mechanical properties were significantly enhanced. The results provide insights for designing Ti2AlNb-based alloys for high-pressure applications.

Characterization and performance of graphene-PbSe thin film heterojunction

Bo He et al.

Summary: A high responsivity infrared detector based on a graphene-PbSe thin film heterostructure was developed. The device showed peak responsivity and detectivity in the NIR region, with photo-excited holes transferring to graphene contributing to its high optical response. Gate-tunability was also demonstrated in the graphene-PbSe phototransistor, an important feature for photodetectors.

Strain engineering in single-, bi- and tri-layer MoS2, MoSe2, WS2 and WSe2

Felix Carrascoso et al.

Summary: This research utilizes strain to modify the optical properties of semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides, with a focus on MoS2, MoSe2, WS2, and WSe2. The study provides detailed technical descriptions for performing uniaxial strain measurements and proposes a calibration method for accurately determining the applied strain. Reflectance spectroscopy is then employed to analyze the strain tunability of electronic properties in single-, bi-, and tri-layer MoS2, MoSe2, WS2, and WSe2, with an assessment of flake-to-flake variability in 15 single-layer MoS2 flakes.

Microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis of copper oxide-based gas-sensitive nanostructures

Ying Li et al.

Summary: Hydrothermal methods are efficient for synthesizing products with specific morphology and nanostructure, and the assistance of microwaves can accelerate reactions and improve physicochemical properties, impacting gas-sensing performance. CuO is widely used in semiconductor gas sensors. Technical challenges and prospective solutions for high-performance CuO-based materials are discussed, and hierarchical CuO-based nanostructures prepared by MWHS process are proposed as efficacious methods for enhancing gas-sensing performance.

Carrier mobility tuning of MoS2 by strain engineering in CVD growth process

Yongfeng Chen et al.

Summary: Strain engineering is proposed as an effective technology for tuning the properties of 2D TMDCs. A novel method of retaining and tuning biaxial tensile strain in monolayer MoS2 through adjusting the CVD process is suggested and experimentally validated. The proposed pathway shows promise in optics applications and high performance electronic device fabrication in 2D materials.

Carrier and vacancy mediated ferrimagnetism in Cu doped rutile TiO2

Qiaolu Lin et al.

Summary: In this study, different systems of Cu-doped TiO2 were calculated to understand the magnetic properties, showing that the substitution ratio and defects can affect the ferromagnetic behavior. The interaction between Cu substitution, oxygen vacancy, and carrier-induced polarization were found to be key factors in determining the ferromagnetism in the material.
