Clinical Evaluation of Deep Learning and Atlas-Based Auto-Contouring of Bladder and Rectum for Prostate Radiation Therapy

W. Jeffrey Zabel et al.

Summary: Auto-contouring can reduce workload, interobserver variation, and time associated with manual contouring. Using deep-learning auto-contouring for bladder and rectum contour generation reduced contouring time without negatively affecting editing times, contour geometry, or clinically relevant dose-volume metrics. This study contributes to the evidence that deep-learning methods are a viable solution for organ-at-risk contouring in radiation therapy.

Automatic delineation of cardiac substructures using a region-based fully convolutional network

Joseph Harms et al.

Summary: The study presents a deep learning-based algorithm for automatic generation of cardiac substructure contours, aiming to investigate the relationship between radiation dose and toxicities. Results show that the proposed method outperforms traditional methods both quantitatively and qualitatively.

Autosegmentation of cardiac substructures in respiratory-gated, non-contrasted computed tomography images

Mark Farrugia et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of autosegmentation of cardiac substructures using 4DCT respiratory-gated non-contrasted imaging. The results showed that while major cardiac structures like great vessels and heart chambers could be reliably autosegmented, small volume structures like coronary arteries, mitral and tricuspid valves required manual definition. Overall, the use of autosegmentation software with a 30-sample subject library was found to be useful in delineating many heart substructures with acceptable clinical accuracy.
