TMEM16A Mediates Mucus Production in Human Airway Epithelial Cells

Ines Cabrita et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that exposure of airway epithelial cells to IL-8 and IL-13 leads to an increase in mucus production, with MUC5AC expression being fully dependent on TMEM16A. Additionally, inhibitors of TMEM16A attenuated IL-13-induced mucus production, suggesting a functional relationship between CFTR and TMEM16A.
