Comparative Studies on Polarizability, Optical Basicity and Optical Properties of Lead Borosilicate Modified with Titania

H. H. Somaily et al.

Summary: The authors reported the data found by FT-IR spectroscopy, ultrasonic velocities, DTA, and optical investigations of glasses with varying TiO2 content. The results show that the mechanical properties and physical properties of the samples improved with the addition of TiO2. Optical feature spectra and XRD analysis were used to examine the properties of the produced glasses and glass-ceramics.

Enhancement of the Shielding Capability of Soda-Lime Glasses with Sb2O3 Dopant: A Potential Material for Radiation Safety in Nuclear Installations

M. I. Sayyed et al.

Summary: Elastic moduli of SiO2-Na2O-CaO glasses doped with Sb2O3 were theoretically calculated, showing an increase with higher Sb2O3 contents. The addition of Sb2O3 was found to enhance the glasses' shielding parameters, with the highest linear attenuation coefficient achieved for SCNSb10 glass. The study also computed the fast neutron effective removal cross-section, revealing differences between samples with varying Sb2O3 contents.

Summary: The study focused on quaternary glasses prepared using the melt-quench method, investigating their structural changes and properties, including increased density and reduced molar volume, as well as experimentally and theoretically calculated ultrasonic velocities and elastic modulus. Evaluation of radiation shielding capacity was also conducted for the studied glasses.

Novel borosilicate glass system: Na2B4O7-SiO2-MnO2: Synthesis, average electronics polarizability, optical basicity, and gamma-ray shielding features

E. A. Abdel Wahab et al.

Summary: A novel glass system with a chemical composition described by the formula 50SiO(2)-(48+x) Na2B4O7-x MnO2 was fabricated using a melt-quenching method, and its state was checked using an XRD diffractometer. The study found that obtaining the physical and optical values of the manganese borosilicate glass system could aid in the development of solid-state devices and optical memory equipment. The polarizability and basicity of the glass samples were found to have the same trend as the refractive index, and the linear attenuation coefficient showed significant variations across the samples.

Ion-beam induced quasi-dynamic continual disorder in Bi-implanted Hongan silica glass

M. S. Koubisy et al.

Summary: The study on optical properties of silicon dioxide irradiated with bismuth ions at different fluences revealed a broadening of absorption edge with low-energy shift and a linear correlation between Urbach energy and optical gap width. The constancy of the D/K ratio for silicon dioxide at different fluences indicates a proportionality between the values of the optical gap and band tails length associated with atomic disorder.

Summary: The addition of Fe2O3 significantly changes the color of the glass and enhances the structural network. With the increase in Fe2O3 content, the elastic moduli values also increase significantly. Additionally, the fast neutron removal cross section and shielding parameters are increased with the increment of Fe2O3.
