How Does a Return Period Policy Change Affect Multichannel Retailer Profitability?

Necati Ertekin et al.

Summary: This study finds that a change in return period policy has different effects on multichannel retailers, with online stores showing no significant impact, while brick-and-mortar stores experience decreased sales, reduced return rates, and lower profitability. There are two likely explanations for the insignificant effect on online stores. Additionally, a return period policy change may increase retail profitability if most stores operate with high sales volume and return rates.

Replication without repeating ourselves: Addressing the replication crisis in operations and supply chain management research

Mark Pagell

Summary: While replication studies remain rare in the field of Operations and Supply Chain Management, the author encourages more replication while acknowledging that they will likely continue to be uncommon. It is suggested that addressing the replication crisis in OSCM can be achieved through systematic theory testing and refining research, which takes into consideration researchers' and journals' incentives to publish new knowledge. This would lead to stronger claims about the veracity of theories, facts, and predictions in the field.
