Hybrid PTFE-glass hierarchical braided/epoxy composites with self-lubricating and high tribological performance

Saeed Reza Zahabi et al.

Summary: In this study, a hybrid PTFE/glass fiber braided structure was used as composite reinforcement, and composites were prepared through vacuum assisted resin transfer molding process. The tribological experiments showed self-lubricating and low friction coefficient due to PTFE transfer film formation, with friction coefficients of 0.112, 0.105, and 0.096 obtained under loading forces of 20, 30, and 40 N, respectively.

Evaluating the tribological and mechanical properties of filament wound composite incorporated with PTFE fibers and tungsten carbide filler applicable for self-lubricating bearings

Summary: This study investigated the tribological and mechanical properties of hybrid E-glass + PTFE/epoxy and Kevlar + PTFE/epoxy self-lubricating composite bearings. Results showed that composites containing 20% glass + 80% PTFE and 20% Kevlar + 80% PTFE exhibited the most effective lubricating performance, with the 20% Kevlar + 80% PTFE composite having the lowest friction coefficient. Additionally, the transfer film with a large amount of 'fluorine' and 'carbon' elements contributed to decreasing the friction coefficient.
