Cervical cancer, human papillomavirus (HPV), and HPV vaccination: exploring gendered perspectives, knowledge, attitudes, and cultural taboos among Mexican American adults

Daisy Y. Morales-Campos et al.

Summary: The study found gendered differences in risk beliefs concerning HPV among Hispanics living along the Texas-Mexico border. Women tended to focus on misconceptions and link HPV-related sexual risks to adultery, while fathers were more likely to associate risk with female promiscuity. All groups believed that HPV vaccination is a way to protect Hispanic females against HPV infection in the face of beliefs around sexual behavior and risk.

Bullying and suicide risk among sexual minority youth in the United States

Ariel U. Smith et al.

Summary: The study found that bullying is associated with increased suicide risk and maladaptive development for sexual minority youth, and all forms of bullying were related to suicide risk. Male SMY reported lower suicide risk compared to female SMY, with females more likely to experience cyberbullying and males more likely to face threats or injuries. Sexual identity did not moderate these relationships, revealing new mechanistic pathways influencing sex-based suicide risk disparities among SMY.
