SudoDEM: Unleashing the predictive power of the discrete element method on simulation for non-spherical granular particles

Shiwei Zhao et al.

Summary: SudoDEM is a novel open-source discrete element code for efficient modeling of non-spherical particles in 2D and 3D, featuring a rich library of particle shapes and efficient contact detection algorithms. The code has been validated and demonstrated its robustness, efficiency and versatility in providing realistic solutions to granular mechanics problems.

An energy-conserving contact theory for discrete element modelling of arbitrarily shaped particles: Basic framework and general contact model

Y. T. Feng

Summary: The first paper of this series establishes a unified theoretical framework for developing energy-conserving normal contact models in the discrete element method. The framework is based on the requirement of conserving potential energy during elastic impacts between two shapes under any condition. It highlights the relationship between the normal force and a contact potential field.
