Effects of dust dispersibility on the suppressant enhanced explosion parameter (SEEP) in flame propagation of Al dust clouds

Yajie Bu et al.

Summary: This study confirms the suppressant enhanced explosion parameter (SEEP) phenomenon in aluminum dust explosion moderation, revealing that the addition of micrometer-sized Al2O3 powder can improve dust dispersibility, decrease the effective particle size distribution (PSD) of Al dust, and effectively prevent SEEP occurrence.

Preparation and performance of novel APP/NaY-Fe suppressant for coal dust explosion

Qingxi Wei et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel composite suppressant was developed to successfully suppress coal dust explosions. Increasing the content of the suppressant improved the explosion suppression performance, lowering the maximum explosion pressure to 0.13 MPa. The new suppressant showed high thermal stability and good dispersity.

Experimental study on explosion inhibition by heptafluoropropane and its synergy with inert gas

Xingyan Cao et al.

Summary: The study found that heptafluoropropane (CF3CHFCF3) can effectively reduce the reaction rate of methane explosion, with a critical concentration for complete inhibition. The synergy of CF3CHFCF3 with inert gases can enhance the inhibition effect, with CF3CHFCF3-CO2 showing better results and increasing inhibition effect with higher inert gas concentration. The mechanisms of physical and chemical effects on explosion inhibition were also analyzed.

Inerting effect of N2 on explosion of LDPE dust/ethylene hybrid mixtures

Kai Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that a small amount of ethylene can enhance the explosion characteristics of LDPE dust, but N-2 inerting has different inhibitory effects on the explosion flames of LDPE dust and its mixture with ethylene. The explosion overpressure strength of the LDPE dust/ethylene hybrid mixture decreases with increasing N-2 concentration.

Inhibition effect and mechanism of ultra-fine water mist on CH4/air detonation: Quantitative research based on CFD technology

Qi Jing et al.

Summary: The study shows that ultra-fine water mist can effectively suppress methane explosions and lead to flame extinguishment. Water mist above 800 g/m³ can completely suppress detonation. The critical transition concentration and critical extinction concentration of ultra-fine water mist were obtained through experiments.

A novel reactive P-containing composite with an ordered porous structure for suppressing nano-Al dust explosions

Haipeng Jiang et al.

Summary: The novel chemical suppressant PA@NH2-MCM41 was successfully synthesized and proved to effectively suppress nano-Al dust explosions. Experimental results showed a significant reduction in flame propagation velocity and maximum explosion pressure with the addition of low proportions of the suppressant, with complete suppression achieved at higher concentrations. The formation of a sealing film by PA@NH2-MCM41 on the surface of explosion products was observed to interrupt aluminum evaporation and surface reactions.

Active protection of work area against explosion of dust-gas mixture

Zbigniew Szkudlarek et al.

Summary: The article discusses the results of tests on an active system for limiting the effects of ignition of gas and/or dust based on a highly efficient explosion suppression system. Various protection mechanisms, including an ignition detection system, high-pressure fire extinguisher, power supply, and trigger system, were used to protect against hazardous dust-gas mixtures explosions. Tests were conducted on two devices to validate the effectiveness of the active explosion suppression system.
