The study revealed that ITP had some influence on the performance of concrete, partially replacing fly ash can improve the early-age compressive strength of concrete but decrease the later-age compressive strength. Increasing ITP content can enhance carbonation resistance and frost resistance, while the best sulfate attack resistance is achieved with a 50% substitution ratio.
The influences of iron tailing powder (ITP) on slump, compressive strength, drying shrinkage, carbonation resis-tance, chloride permeability, frost resistance and sulfate attack of concrete with fly ash were investigated. The in -corporation of ITP enhances cohesiveness of concrete with small loss of slump. Partial replacement of fly ash with ITP increases early-age compressive strength but decreases later-age compressive strength of concrete. Increas-ing ITP content has little effect on early-age drying shrinkage but decreases total shrinkage within 180 days. The carbonation resistance is improved and the good frost resistance of concrete is obtained by adding ITP. The chlo-ride permeability grade of concrete cannot be affected when the proportion of ITP replacing fly ash does not ex-ceed 50%. The best resistance to sulfate attack is obtained when 50% fly ash is replaced by ITP. Decreasing water/ binder ratio is advantageous to improving mechanical properties and durability of concrete containing fly ash and ITP. (c) 2022 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
