An ore is made up of components/minerals with different physical and chemical properties, which affect the performance of grinding and classification operations. This study compared the air classification performances of pure components and binary feeding states, finding that parameters such as bypass, cut size, and sharpness varied. Powder interactions and material specifications played a role in these variations.
An ore is composed of components/minerals having varied physical and chemical properties that affects the performance of grinding and classification operations. The interactions between them have also effects on the performance and this study compared the air classification performances of the pure components with that of the state of binary feeding. Within the scope, magnetite, calcite and clinker samples that were in pure and binary mixed state were subjected to series of experimental works at changing air flow rates of the classifier. Certain methodology was applied to separate the components of a given bulk and the size-by distributions were determined. The evaluations indicated that bypass, cut size and sharpness parameters varied for pure feeding and the blend feeding states. Powder interactions and material specifications such as the density had effects on these variations and defining the powder specific constants were suggested to enhance the accuracy of the model predictions.
