Thermal, electrical and mechanical properties of graphene/nano-alumina/epoxy composites

Amr Osman et al.

Summary: By dispersing reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and alumina into the epoxy matrix at different hybrid ratios, the synergy of RGO and alumina at 6:4 was found to enhance thermal conductivity by 23.4%, retain insulation properties, increase tensile strength, and improve storage modulus. The settling of alumina nanoparticles on the graphene surface inhibits electron transfer and eliminates graphene agglomerations, making it an important study for designing optimal multi-functional polymeric packaging materials.

Synergistic effect of phase structures and in situ sintering of silver fillers on thermal conductivity of epoxy/polyethersulphone/silver filler composites

Hajime Kishi et al.

Summary: The study investigated the thermal conductivity of DGEBA/DDM/PES/Ag filler composites. The co-continuous phase structures formed during curing, with Ag fillers sintering in epoxy-rich phases and experiencing enhanced contact opportunities. The enhanced thermal conductivities were attributed to the synergistic effect of phase structures and in situ sintering of Ag fillers.

Bubble-templated rGO-graphene nanoplatelet foams encapsulated in silicon rubber for electromagnetic interference shielding and high thermal conductivity

Jingchao Li et al.

Summary: This study utilized a simple foaming route to construct a bubble-templated 3D graphene network, endowing PDMS rubber composites with excellent EMI shielding effectiveness. The abundant closed pore structures for reflecting and absorbing electromagnetic waves, combined with high electrical conductivity from interconnected 3D graphene networks, contribute to the superior EMI shielding property. Additionally, with a low filler loading content of only 18.1 wt%, the density of the composite is just 1.1 g/cm(3).

Experimental study of the anisotropic thermal conductivity of 2D carbon-fiber/epoxy woven composites

Hu Zhang et al.

Summary: This study measured the anisotropic thermal conductivities of carbon-fiber/epoxy composites, comparing results obtained using three different methods. The research found that the thermal conductivity of the materials increased with temperature, with the in-plane thermal conductivity approximately four times higher than the out-of-plane thermal conductivity for plain woven composites. The sources of error leading to deviations in the measurements were also discussed.
