Effects of loading rate, applied shear strain, and magnetic field on stress relaxation behavior of anisotropic magnetorheological elastomer

Tran Huu Nam et al.

Summary: Experimental research and numerical computation were conducted to study the stress relaxation behavior of an anisotropic magnetorheological elastomer (MRE), showing that the stress relaxation of the material is significantly influenced by the constant strain level and external magnetic field intensity, while being slightly dependent on the loading rate. The four-parameter fractional derivative Zener model proved to be a good fit for describing the stress relaxation behavior and long-term predictions of the anisotropic MRE.

Modelling and experimental characterisation of a compressional adaptive magnetorheological elastomer isolator

Emiliano Rustighi et al.

Summary: This article proposes a physical-based model to describe and predict the performance of axially compressed magnetorheological elastomer cylinders, effectively describing the effect of the magnetic field on the modulus of elasticity despite neglecting some material properties. The manufacturing process of the samples and experimental validation results are detailed, showing that the model is limited by the linear elastic material model.

A nonlinear dynamic model of magnetorheological elastomers in magnetic fields based on fractional viscoelasticity

Guanghong Zhu et al.

Summary: Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are smart materials widely used in intelligent structures and devices, with a nonlinear model developed to represent their dynamic behavior. Model parameters were identified through experimental data fitting, showing good repeatability and consistency, and were analyzed for their dependence on strain amplitudes and magnetic fields. The model demonstrated excellent agreement with experimental results regarding the dependence of dynamic moduli on strain amplitudes and magnetic fields.

Experimental and numerical research of stress relaxation behavior of magnetorheological elastomer

Tran Huu Nam et al.

Summary: This paper presents experimental research and viscoelastic modeling of stress relaxation response of isotropic magnetorheological elastomer (MRE). The results show that the stress relaxation response of the MRE is dependent on the applied constant strain and external magnetic field. The four-parameter fractional derivative viscoelastic model used in the study fits well to experimental data and can accurately predict the long-term relaxation behavior of the MRE.

Bifurcation of magnetorheological film-substrate elastomers subjected to biaxial pre-compression and transverse magnetic fields

M. Rambausek et al.

Summary: This work investigates the primary sinusoidal bifurcation wrinkling response of single- and multi-layered magnetorheological elastomer film-substrate systems subjected to combined transverse applied magnetic fields and in-plane biaxial pre-compression. A continuum model is employed to analyze the effect of magnetic properties on the system's response, leading to the discovery that topologies resembling closely the monolayer one have the lowest critical magnetic fields under given biaxial pre-compression.

Summary: Magneto-active polymers (MAPs) consist of a polymeric matrix filled with magnetisable particles that can change mechanical properties under external magnetic stimuli. Existing models fail to capture specific physics features, while a new continuum constitutive model based on microstructure origins shows promise in predicting the magneto-mechanical behavior of MAPs, validated with experimental data.

Summary: A constitutive model for the dynamic shear modulus of magneto-sensitive elastomer is developed, considering temperature, prestrain, dynamic strain amplitude, and magnetic field dependence. Various functions and models are used to represent the dependencies, and after parameter identification, the model shows good agreement with experimental results, enabling accurate prediction of material performance under different conditions.

Microstructural modelling of hard-magnetic soft materials: Dipole-dipole interactions versus Zeeman effect

Daniel Garcia-Gonzalez et al.

Summary: Hard-magnetic soft materials are magneto-active polymers composed of hard-magnetic fillers, presenting complex magneto-mechanical couplings that require consideration of dipole-dipole interactions and initial stretch of the polymeric network. The importance of accounting for these interactions and pre-stretch of the polymeric network in understanding the behavior of hard-magnetic MAPs is highlighted by the proposed novel constitutive model.
