Flame retardant characteristics of polymerized dopamine hydrochloride coated jute fabric and jute fabric composites

Mehmet Fatih Oktem et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that polydopamine (PDA) polymerized from dopamine hydro-chloride can efficiently coat natural fabrics, improving their fire resistance. The PDA coating not only increases the decomposition temperature and ignition time of the material, but also slows down the flame propagation rate.

An intumescent flame-retardant layer with β-cyclodextrin as charring agent and its flame retardancy in jute/polypropylene composites

Yanli Dou et al.

Summary: A flame-retardant jute/PP composite with improved flame-retarding, thermal stabilities, and mechanical properties was prepared using the surface powder spraying method. The addition of beta-CD, APP, and MEL significantly enhanced the composite's resistance to fire, stability under heat, and strength.

An overview of alginates as flame-retardant materials: Pyrolysis behaviors, flame retardancy, and applications

Ying-Jun Xu et al.

Summary: Alginates are naturally occurring polysaccharides that have inherent flame retardancy, making them ideal for eco-friendly flame-retardant materials. The influence of metal ions on the flame retardancy and pyrolysis behaviors of alginates has been studied systematically. Alginates have great potential in applications such as preparing flame-retardant fibers, fabrics, and aerogel composites.

Flame Retardancy Enhancement of Jute Fabric Using Chemical Treatment

Md Reazuddin Repon et al.

Summary: This study aims to enhance the flame retardancy of jute fabric by using different concentrations of flame retardants. The results showed that borax-treated raw and bleached specimens exhibited the longest flame spread time among all samples. The flame retardant jute fabrics treated with borax and diammonium phosphate showed better flame retardancy and wash durability compared to thiourea.
