Study of the Moisture Mitigation and Toughening Effect of Fly-ash Particles on Sisal Fiber-Reinforced Hybrid Polypropylene Composites

Atul Kumar Maurya et al.

Summary: This study focused on developing fly-ash and sisal fiber reinforced hybrid polypropylene composites, which showed improved impact strength, tensile strength, flexural strength, and thermal degradation stability. The addition of fly ash led to a positive shift in glass transition temperatures and improved storage modulus of the composite materials. The composites with higher fly ash content demonstrated lower water uptake properties.

Mechano-chemically activated fly-ash and sisal fiber reinforced PP hybrid composite with enhanced mechanical properties

Atul Kumar Maurya et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the successful hybridization of sisal fiber-reinforced polypropylene composites using mechano-chemical activated fly-ash with the addition of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. The hybrid composite showed significantly improved mechanical properties compared to virgin PP and sisal fiber composites, with enhanced tensile, flexural, and impact strengths. Morphological and thermal analyses confirmed the good wettability of reinforcing fiber and fly-ash within the matrix, as well as improved thermal stability of the composites.

A combined theoretical and experimental investigation of the valorization of mechanical and thermal properties of the fly ash-reinforced polypropylene hybrid composites

Atul Kumar Maurya et al.

Summary: Surface modification of fly ash particles with Ctab, GO, and CMC can enhance their adhesion with the polypropylene matrix, resulting in increased tensile and flexural strength of the composites. The improved thermal stability of the materials was confirmed by various analyses. Molecular dynamics simulations showed the highest interfacial interaction in the Ctab-treated FA-reinforced PP composite.

Thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer reinforced polypropylene composites enhanced with carbon nanotubes for use in fused filament fabrication

Jier Y. Han et al.

Summary: This research aimed to enhance the mechanical properties of wholly thermoplastic composites (WTCs) used in fused filament fabrication (FFF) by using multiscale thermoplastic composites. Significant improvements were observed in tensile properties, particularly in tensile modulus and strength, when reinforcing WTCs with polypropylene (PP) with thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer (TLCP) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The advanced interfacial adhesion between TLCP fibrils and matrix resulted in an enhancement in the tensile strength.

Generation of nylon copolymer reinforced with carbon nanotubes and thermotropic liquid crystalline polymers for use in fused filament fabrication

Jier Y. Han et al.

Summary: This study investigated the preparation and performance improvement of multiscale thermoplastic composites using thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer, carbon nanotubes, and nylon copolymer. The addition of 1wt% CNTs was found to significantly enhance the tensile properties of the material, especially for the 20wt% TLCP/1wt% CNTs/PAc samples. Additionally, composites with filaments laid parallel to the printing direction exhibited excellent mechanical properties.
