Multiscale modeling of mechanical behaviors of Nano-SiC/epoxy nanocomposites with modified interphase model: Effect of nanoparticle clustering

Kyungmin Baek et al.

Summary: A modified interphase model was developed to improve the physical error of the conventional interphase model, and a multiscale analysis was conducted to investigate the effect of SiC nanoparticle agglomeration on the mechanical properties of epoxy-based nano-composites. Both interphase models could effectively describe the negative impact of nanoparticle clustering on nanocomposite stiffness, but only the modified model provided results consistent with experimental observations in terms of nanocomposite strength.
