Controlling Solar Hydrogen Production by Organizing Porphyrins

Vasilis Nikolaou et al.

Summary: In this study, a highly efficient photocatalytic system for H-2 production is developed using porphyrins as photocatalysts. Self-organization of PdTCP and PtTCP into H- and J-aggregates on TiO2 NPs is crucial for H-2 evolution, with J-aggregated PtTCPs showing higher efficiency than H-aggregated PdTCPs. The simultaneous adsorption of PdTCP and PtTCP onto TiO2 NPs results in the most efficient catalytic system, achieving high turnover numbers.

Synthesis and characterization of photocatalytic zinc oxide/titanium oxide (core/shell) nanocomposites

Masoud Emami Mehr et al.

Summary: In this study, core/shell ZnO/TiO2 nanocomposite samples were prepared using the sol-gel method at different time spans. The sample prepared in the 15-minute time span (ZnTi15) exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity and charge carrier density, making it the optimal sample. The formation of a heterojunction at the ZnO/TiO2 interface could be attributed to the increased photocurrent density observed for the ZnTi15 sample.

Photoelectrochemical properties of dyads composed of porphyrin/ruthenium catalyst grafted on metal oxide semiconductors

Asterios Charisiadis et al.

Summary: In this study, four different porphyrin-ruthenium dyads were utilized as sensitizers in both nand p-type DSSCs and DSPECs, demonstrating that dyads with ruthenium complexes exhibit improved performance in both systems.

Synthesis and characterization of Sr-doped ZnO nanoparticles for photocatalytic applications

Mohadeseh Yarahmadi et al.

Summary: Doping zinc oxide with strontium improved its photocatalytic activity, with the best performance observed at 3% strontium doping. The band gap of the photocatalyst decreased from 3.34 to 3.17 eV, leading to a significant increase in the degradation of methylene blue dye.

Photocatalytic hydrogen production of porphyrin nanostructures: spheres vs. fibrils, a case study

Vasilis Nikolaou et al.

Summary: In this study, a covalently connected peptide-porphyrin hybrid was prepared and found to self-assemble into either spheres or fibrils depending on the solvent mixture. Photocatalytic hydrogen evolution experiments showed that fibrils were more efficient in H-2 production compared to spheres.
