Estimating spatial variation in the effects of climate change on the net primary production of Japanese cedar plantations based on modeled carbon dynamics

Jumpei Toriyama et al.

Summary: This study presents a methodology for estimating spatially varying productivity in Japanese planted forests, with a focus on Japanese cedar. By using the Biome-BGC model and climate scenarios, the results showed an overall increase in forest productivity under future climate change, but with potential risks identified in the southwestern region.

Effects of Throughfall Exclusion on Photosynthetic Traits in Mature Japanese Cedar (Cryptomeria japonica (L. f.) D. Don.)

Tanaka Kenzo et al.

Summary: Research on mature Japanese cedar trees under drought stress found that they exhibited resilience by reducing photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance while increasing intrinsic water use efficiency. Despite little change in leaf nitrogen concentration, leaf mass per unit area, and photosynthetic capacity, the cedar trees tended to close stomata to regulate transpiration and avoid drought-induced damage.
