Skin colour, carotenogenesis and chlorophyll degradation mutant alleles: genetic orchestration behind the fruit colour variation in tomato

Tirthartha Chattopadhyay et al.

Summary: Genetics underlying fruit color variation in tomatoes is a significant area of research, focusing on skin pigmentation, carotenoid biosynthesis, and chlorophyll degradation. Exploring the interaction of mutant alleles of different genes can lead to novel tomato genotypes with unique fruit color and beneficial phytonutrient composition. This research is valuable for genetic characterization of fruit color variants and molecular breeding for fruit color improvement in tomatoes.

Integrative genome, transcriptome, microRNA, and degradome analysis of water dropwort (Oenanthe javanica) in response to water stress

Jie-Xia Liu et al.

Summary: Water dropwort is an aquatic perennial plant rich in protein, dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals, with its whole-genome sequencing reported for the first time using HiSeq 2000 technology. The establishment of the Water dropwortDB provides resources for further research on O. javanica. Comparative analysis revealed the closest evolutionary relationship between O. javanica and Daucus carota, and the study identified genetic factors related to phenotypic and anatomic differentiation under different water conditions.

Low temperature effects on carotenoids biosynthesis in the leaves of green and albino tea plant (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze)

Ya-Zhuo Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of low temperature on carotenoids content in leaves of different tea cultivars. Results showed significant differences in lutein and beta-carotene content between cultivars under low temperature, with chlorophyll content decreasing and positively correlating with carotenoids. The study also identified key genes involved in carotenoids biosynthesis and their regulatory role in tea plants under low temperature conditions.

Effects of simulated drought stress on carotenoid contents and expression of related genes in carrot taproots

Rong-Rong Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that under drought stress, the increase in beta-carotene content in 'Qitouhuang' carrot taproots is related to the expression levels of DcPSY2 and DcLCYB. Increases in lutein and decreases in alpha-carotene content in 'Qitouhuang' and 'Kurodagosun' under PEG treatment may be related to the expression levels of DcCYP97A3, DcCHXE, and DcCHXB1. The significant increase in the expression levels of DcNCED1 and DcNCED2 in the three cultivars suggests that NCED genes could respond to drought stress. Additionally, the better adaptability of the orange cultivar 'Kurodagosun' to drought stress and the involvement of beta-carotene and lutein in the stress resistance process of carrots were indicated through analysis of growth status and carotenoid contents under PEG treatment.
