Alfalfa Biomass Yield and Nitrogen Fixation in Response to Applied Mineral Nitrogen Under Saline Soil Conditions

Ahmed Elgharably et al.

Summary: This study found that under saline conditions, alfalfa biomass, nitrogen fixation, and potassium/sodium ratio increased with nitrogen fertilization, but root nodule number and nitrogen derived from air varied at different nitrogen levels. Nitrogen fertilization seemed to have a positive effect in alleviating salt stress and maintaining shoot biomass production in alfalfa.

Enhanced alkali tolerance of rhizobia-inoculated alfalfa correlates with altered proteins and metabolic processes as well as decreased oxidative damage

Tingting Song et al.

Summary: The study revealed that rhizobia-inoculated alfalfa plants showed enhanced tolerance to alkaline stress compared to non-inoculated plants. Rhizobia-inoculated plants accumulated more proline and MDH, exhibited higher antioxidant activity, and had lower oxidative damage under alkaline stress.

Physiological and proteomics analyses reveal the resistance response mechanism to alkali stress in the early seedlings (cotyledons vs. roots) of castor plant (Ricinus communis L.)

Jinghong Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that alkaline stress inhibited seedling growth, particularly in the roots. Proline and soluble sugars increased in cotyledons, while remaining unchanged in the roots under alkaline stress. Proteomic analysis revealed 15 and 25 alkaline-responsive proteins in the cotyledons and roots, respectively.

Prohexadione-calcium alleviates saline-alkali stress in soybean seedlings by improving the photosynthesis and up-regulating antioxidant defense

Naijie Feng et al.

Summary: Soil salinization significantly impacts soybean growth and yield. Exogenous Pro-Ca can mitigate damage from saline-alkali stress by improving chlorophyll content, photosynthetic efficiency, and antioxidant defense. Salt-tolerant cultivars show better resilience to saline-alkali stress compared to salt-sensitive ones.

Photosynthetic efficiency of Microcystis ssp. under salt stress

Piotr Dabrowski et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the photosynthesis of Microcystis colonies under salt stress, finding that the stress inhibited electron transfer and photoinduced electron transport. It was recommended to use combined analysis of chlorophyll fluorescence and MR820 as a novel method for studying photosynthetic machinery reactions.

Multiomics analysis provides insights into alkali stress tolerance of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)

Huiying Lu et al.

Summary: Sunflower exhibits strong alkali tolerance. Alkali stress alters the lipid components of sunflower seeds, potentially affecting the quality of sunflower seed oils. Alkali stress promotes the accumulation of various substances in sunflower roots. Interaction of multiple phytohormones and bioactive molecules play a role in mediating alkali tolerance in sunflower.
