Performance evaluation of a beta-spectrometer comprising a plastic scintillator and multi-wire chamber using a coincidence method

Hyeonmin Lee et al.

Summary: This paper presents an experimental setup for measuring beta-ray energy spectrum and a Geant4 simulation study to characterize the properties of a beta-spectrometer. The developed spectrometer effectively removed high gamma-ray interference using the coincidence method and demonstrated good energy resolution and internal conversion peak detection efficiency.

Novel technique for non-destructive LAI estimation by continuous measurement of NIR and PAR in rice canopy

Shota Fukuda et al.

Summary: A new technique was developed to nondestructively determine rice LAI by measuring NIR and PAR with optical sensors and calculating SR and N/P ratios based on growth stages. This technique successfully drew seasonal canopy growth curves, and can be used as a powerful tool for evaluating, modeling, and phenotyping crop growth characteristics in various rice cultivars as well as other crops.

A new method for measuring vegetation indices based on passive light source

Yongqian Ding et al.

Summary: By introducing the standard whiteboard response ratio CW with constant value, a new method for calculating VIs was constructed, which showed strong adaptability to natural light intensity and measurement heights. The measured NDVI values were stable and more accurate compared to traditional methods.

Semi-supervised few-shot learning approach for plant diseases recognition

Yang Li et al.

Summary: The proposed semi-supervised few-shot learning approach in this study demonstrates effectiveness and generalization in plant leaf disease recognition, outperforming other related works with fewer labeled training data. The average improvement by the single semi-supervised method is 2.8%, and that by the iterative semi-supervised method is 4.6%.

Accounting for canopy structure improves hyperspectral radiative transfer and sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence representations in a new generation Earth System model

Renato K. Braghiere et al.

Summary: This paper evaluates the impact of incorporating an implicit clumping index into ESMs for global scale vegetation canopy representation on factors such as hyperspectral shortwave radiation partitioning and Sun-Induced Chlorophyll Fluorescence (SIF). Results show that considering canopy structural heterogeneity is critical for calculating hyperspectral radiation transfer accurately. Including vertical and horizontal canopy structure when deriving SIF can significantly improve model predictions.
