Quantification of Colletotrichum fioriniae in Orchards and Deciduous Forests Indicates It Is Primarily a Leaf Endophyte

Phillip L. Martin et al.

Summary: Colletotrichum fioriniae is an important hemibiotrophic pathogen affecting vegetables and fruits globally, especially causing bitter rot disease in apples. Research shows that the distribution and quantity of Colletotrichum fioriniae differ between apple orchards and nearby forests, where it acts as a common leaf endophyte.

Effects of Temperature and Moisture on Conidia Germination, Infection, and Acervulus Formation of the Apple Marssonina Leaf Blotch Pathogen (Diplocarpon mali) in China

Sen Lian et al.

Summary: Apple Marssonina leaf blotch (AMLB; Diplocarpon mali) is a severe disease of apple that causes premature leaf defoliation, with epidemic development closely related to temperature and rainfall. Research shows that an optimum temperature of around 23 degrees Celsius is required for conidium germination and infection. A model was developed to estimate the optimal temperature for conidial infection and the minimum wetness duration needed for disease management in commercial apple production.

Management of premature leaf fall (Marssonina coronaria) of apple with new generation fungicides in the North-Western Himalayan Region of India

Santosh Watpade et al.

Summary: In apple orchards in the north-western Himalayan region of India, the combination products tebuconazole +trifloxystrobin and fluxapyroxad +pyraclostrobin are effective in managing premature leaf fall disease, increasing yield, and providing good cost-benefit ratio.

Multiplexed SSR marker analysis of Diplocarpon coronariae reveals clonality within samples from Middle Europe and genetic distance from Asian and North American isolates

Thomas Oberhaensli et al.

Summary: The study developed twelve Dc-specific microsatellite markers and identified genetic differences between European and Asian/USA samples of Dc. The European population showed high clonality and a dominant MLG, while all European MLGs were genetically distant from those of Asian and USA origin. The lack of linkage disequilibrium suggests regular cycles of sexual recombination in the European population.
