High-Quality Genome Resource of the Pathogen of Diaporthe (Phomopsis) phragmitis Causing Kiwifruit Soft Rot

Xiaojie Wang et al.

Summary: Diaporthe spp. are important plant pathogens causing wood cankers, wilt, dieback, and fruit rot in various economic plant hosts, with Diaporthe phragmitis NJD1 being a highly pathogenic isolate of kiwifruit soft rot. The high-quality genome-wide sequence of D. phragmitis NJD1 provides a solid foundation for understanding host-pathogen interactions and improving disease management strategies.

Isolation frequency and efficiency of mycoparasitic Pythium species in the West Mediterranean region of Turkey

G. Tepedelen Aganer et al.

Summary: A total of 132 mycoparasitic Pythium isolates were obtained from various agricultural fields in the West Mediterranean region of Turkey, with P. amasculinum and P. lycopersicum being the most commonly isolated species, mainly from sugarbeet fields. The study showed that these mycoparasitic species exhibit high mycoparasitic activity against Botrytis cinerea and Rhizoctonia solani, but are resistant to Sclerotinia rolfsii. This suggests that mycoparasitic Pythium species can be effective biocontrol agents against B. cinerea and R. solani.
