Accumulation of phosphorus and calcium in different cells protects the phosphorus-hyperaccumulator Ptilotus exaltatus from phosphorus toxicity in high-phosphorus soils

Daihua Ye et al.

Summary: Ptilotus exaltatus can tolerate high levels of phosphorus by allocating phosphorus and calcium to different cell types, thereby avoiding detrimental precipitation of Ca-3(PO4)(2). In contrast, phosphorus toxicity in Kennedia prostrata arises from the co-location of calcium and phosphorus in palisade mesophyll cells.

Genetic Diversity and Population Structure of a Rhodes Grass (Chloris gayana) Collection

Alemayehu Teressa Negawo et al.

Summary: The study characterized 104 Rhodes grass accessions to evaluate genetic diversity and population structure, identifying significant genetic variation and developing a representative subset. The results revealed substantial genetic diversity in the Rhodes grass collection, providing valuable information for enhancing management, use and improvement of the germplasm in the future.

Role of roots in adaptation of soil-indifferent Proteaceae to calcareous soils in south-western Australia

Lukasz Kotula et al.

Summary: The study found that soil-indifferent Hakea and Banksia species have different strategies in intercepting and allocating calcium, accumulating calcium in roots and specific leaf cells respectively. Conversely, calcifuge Hakea and Banksia species showed differences in cellular calcium concentrations.
