Rab-E and its interaction with myosin XI are essential for polarised cell growth

Robert G. Orr et al.

Summary: The interaction between Rab-E and myosin XI is a conserved feature of polarised growth in plants, and it is essential for the normal plant growth. This interaction is specifically mediated by a certain residue in myosin XI, and it supports the spatial and temporal coupling of both proteins at sites of active exocytosis.

AtFH14 crosslinks actin filaments and microtubules in different manners

Pingzhou Du et al.

Summary: The research revealed the mechanism of AtFH14 as a crosslinker between actin filaments and microtubules in cell division. In the presence of microtubules, AtFH14 showed higher binding affinity to microtubules and could bundle or crosslink actin filaments and microtubules. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the interactions between actin filaments and microtubules.

Cytokinesis in fra2 Arabidopsis thaliana p60-katanin Mutant: Defects in Cell Plate/Daughter Wall Formation

Emmanuel Panteris et al.

Summary: The malfunction of p60-katanin in cell plate/daughter wall formation in the fra2 Arabidopsis thaliana loss-of-function mutant was investigated. Deviations in the chemical composition of cell plate/new cell wall were identified by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), immunolabeling, and confocal microscopy. Delayed cytokinesis in the mutant results in a loss of synchronization between cell plate growth and chemical maturation.

Regulation and Function of Defense-Related Callose Deposition in Plants

Ying Wang et al.

Summary: Plants have developed a variety of defense mechanisms to protect themselves from pathogens, with callose playing a crucial role. This beta-(1,3)-D-glucan is deposited at pathogen attack sites to slow their spread, and research over the years has increased our understanding of its regulation and function in plant defense.

The Arabidopsis thaliana Class II Formin FH13 Modulates Pollen Tube Growth

Eva Kollarova et al.

Summary: Formins are a family of proteins that play important roles in regulating dynamics of actin, microfilament, microtubule, and membrane. In angiosperms, formins can be divided into Class I and Class II subfamilies, each with unique domain organization. The study focused on the characterization of a Class II formin FH13 in Arabidopsis pollen, showing its role in controlling pollen tube growth and elongation. Loss of function mutations in FH13 stimulate in vitro pollen tube growth, while overexpression inhibits pollen tube elongation. This suggests that FH13 acts as a modulator of pollen tube elongation rather than a component of the molecular apparatus executing tip growth.

Analysis of formin functions during cytokinesis using specific inhibitor SMIFH2

Laining Zhang et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the function of formins in cytokinesis, suggesting their roles in promoting microtubule polymerization, nucleating F-actin at the cell plate, retaining dynamin-related proteins at the cell plate, and remodeling the cell plate membrane. The use of SMIFH2 has helped reveal the impact of formins on these processes.

Cytoskeletal regulation of primary plant cell wall assembly

Youssef Chebli et al.

Summary: The plant cell wall serves as an important extracellular matrix that envelops cells, maintains their shape and structure, interacts with symbionts, and protects against external stresses. The assembly of this matrix is regulated by the cytoskeleton, which also plays a key role in perceiving mechanical cues and mediating intracellular responses related to cell wall structure changes. Delivery processes of cell wall precursors and their structural continuity are crucial for cell wall assembly, with various morphogenetic processes relying on cell wall assembly as a critical element.

DYNAMIN-RELATED PROTEIN DRP1A functions with DRP2B in plant growth, flg22-immune responses, and endocytosis

Gayani Ekanayake et al.

Summary: The study identified the critical role of Arabidopsis DRP1A in ligand-induced endocytosis of FLS2 and its physiological functions in bacterial immune responses. It also revealed the synergistic roles of DRP1A and DRP2B in plant growth, mutant phenotypes, and PM regulation of FLS2. The study suggests the importance of DRP1A and DRP2B in maintaining proper levels of FLS2 for distinct flg22 responses by potentially modulating the lipid environment in specific PM domains.

IQ67 DOMAIN proteins facilitate preprophase band formation and division-plane orientation

Pratibha Kumari et al.

Summary: The spatiotemporal control of cell division is essential for the growth and development of multicellular organisms. Plant-specific cytoskeleton arrays, the preprophase band (PPB) and the phragmoplast, play important roles in division-plane orientation and cell plate formation. The Arabidopsis IQ67 DOMAIN (IQD) family members act as cellular scaffolds that facilitate PPB formation and CDZ set-up during symmetric cell division.
