Impact of dietary carbohydrate type and protein-carbohydrate interaction on metabolic health

Jibran A. Wali et al.

Summary: In this study, Simpson and colleagues investigate the impact of carbohydrate quality on protein-diluted diets in mice. They find that the type and digestibility of carbohydrates have a profound effect on metabolic outcomes, nutrient processing, and gut microbiota in mice. Low-protein, high-carbohydrate diets with resistant starch promote healthier metabolic responses, while a 50:50 mixture of fructose and glucose leads to the worst outcomes.
